Question 1

How does this compare to AdminStudio or other packaging tools?

Accepted Answer

Traditional tools like AdminStudio cost $1,500+ per year. They also need real training to use. InstallMage ships the same MSI and IntuneWin output with a drag-and-drop UI. The AI does the detection work for you. It is built for MSPs and freelancers who need a result today, not a workflow.

Question 2

Is this just a wrapper, or a true repackage?

Accepted Answer

Both, depending on the installer. We do a true repackage when we can. For complex installers we build an optimized wrapper with the right silent arguments. The AI picks the best approach per file.

Question 3

Which AI models power the detection?

Accepted Answer

We use a mix of pattern matching and ML models. They are built around a large library of installer signatures and verified community recipes. That covers Inno Setup, NSIS, InstallShield, WiX, and most other frameworks you will see in the wild.

Question 4

Will the output work with Intune and SCCM?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our MSI output works with Microsoft Intune, SCCM, ConfigMgr, and other enterprise deployment tools. Pro and MSP users can also export native .intunewin packages straight from the dashboard.

Question 5

How do you handle security and privacy?

Accepted Answer

Your installer is processed on an isolated worker and deleted from our servers as soon as conversion finishes. The converted files are kept in private storage, available only to your account, for 24 hours, then permanently deleted. All transfers use TLS.

Question 6

What exactly does an EXE to MSI converter do for IT teams?

Accepted Answer

An EXE to MSI converter takes a vendor-supplied Windows EXE installer and produces a Windows Installer (MSI) package that supports unattended deployment, per-machine installs, and standard uninstall behavior. IT teams need MSI output because Microsoft Intune, SCCM, ConfigMgr, and most MDM platforms expect a deterministic installer with proper exit codes and detection metadata. InstallMage automates that conversion so you do not have to repackage installers by hand in Orca, Advanced Installer, or AdminStudio.

Question 7

Why would I choose an MSI converter for IT over manual repackaging?

Accepted Answer

Manual repackaging usually takes two to four hours per application: capture a clean VM snapshot, run the EXE, diff the filesystem and registry, author a WiX or InstallShield project, then test silent install and uninstall. An MSI converter for IT collapses that work into a single upload by detecting the underlying installer framework (Inno Setup, NSIS, InstallShield, WiX, MSIX, Burn) and emitting the correct silent install switches automatically. The result is a deployable MSI or .intunewin package in under three minutes, with the install, uninstall, and detection commands generated for you.

Question 8

Does InstallMage support .intunewin packaging for Microsoft Intune Win32 apps?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every conversion can produce a native .intunewin package alongside the MSI, with no manual IntuneWinAppUtil.exe step required. We also generate the Win32 app metadata Intune asks for: install command, uninstall command, and a registry or file-based detection rule. You can copy those values straight from your dashboard into the Intune admin center.

Question 9

What types of Windows EXE installers does the converter support?

Accepted Answer

InstallMage supports the vast majority of common Windows EXE installer formats, including Inno Setup, NSIS, InstallShield, WiX Burn bundles, Squirrel, and most vendor-custom EXEs that expose a silent switch. If our detection engine cannot confidently identify the installer, we fall back to a signed MSI wrapper with the most likely silent arguments so you still get a deployable package instead of a dead end.
